The Mission of Wildwood Ballet:
To glorify God and enjoy Him forever – through the art of dance.
Theme for 2013-2014:
“…He (Abraham) grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God.” Romans 4:20b
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1-2
In 1997, Robin Stuyverson was asked by Wildwood Church to teach dance classes to 3-8 year olds for a Children’s Ministry project entitled “Kids Expressing Their Faith Through the Arts”. Because of the interest generated from the project, Robin continued teaching after school dance classes for several years at Wildwood Church, while also teaching at a local dance studio, Sharon Davis School of Dance. By 2002, the dance classes at Wildwood were officially named “Wildwood Ballet”. It has been our privilege to offer weekly dance classes to children, youth, and adults in several disciplines – Ballet, Pointe, Pre-Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Conditioning, and Musical Theater. Graciously, Wildwood Church agreed to install dance floors, mirrors, and barres into two church classrooms, where we teach weekly.
In addition to dance classes, we have a resident dance company, Wildwood Ballet Company, that is comprised of a Junior Company and Senior Company. These companies of students perform locally in our community as outreach to nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and local community events. Our Junior Company is comprised of students, who are not required to audition, that rehearse each week for our semi-annual outreach concerts. Our Senior Company is a newly formed company of senior students, who are required to audition, that performs locally for community events and in concerts.
We also offer annual summer dance camps for students ages 4-15. Our dance camps focus on various styles of technique while also including bible studies that are pertinent to our topic. The topic for 2013 and 2014 is Princesses-Daughters of the King. We will continue the journey of our nine princesses over the next two summers as they learn about the fruits of the Spirit and encounter adventure, mystery, and fun along the way.
